About the Artist
The Artist Behind Little River Wampum
Robert J. Hayward is a member of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and the artist behind Little River Wampum. Using quahog shell, the traditional material used for centuries to create wampum, he handcrafts each piece while honoring the cultural traditions of the Northeastern Woodlands.
Each design blends traditional inspiration with contemporary style, highlighting the natural beauty of the shell and the continuing legacy of wampum as both art and cultural expression.
